Putin says conversations with the United States “inspire hope”

President Vladimir Putin warned the “western elites” against the attempt to sabotage a potential approach between Russia and the United States, saying that Moscow would use his diplomats and intelligence services to frustrate such efforts.

Driving to Russia’s FSB security service, Putin said he was pleased with how an attempt to resume the ties between Moscow and Washington was progressing, although it was still the beginning.

“I notice that the first contacts with the new American administration inspire certain hopes. There is a reciprocal desire to work to restore intergovernmental ties and to gradually solve the huge number of systemic and strategic problems that have accumulated in world security architecture, ”said Putin.

He continued praising the fact that they were demonstrating what he called pragmatism and realism and abandoning the “ideological clichés” of his predecessors who, he said, caused a crisis in international relations.

But Putin said it is clear that not all countries are in favor of the idea of more warm ties among the two largest nuclear powers in the world.

“We understand that not everyone is pleased with the resumption of Russian American contacts. Some western elites are still determined to maintain instability in the world, and these forces will try to disturb or compromise the dialogue that began, ”Putin said.

“We need to be aware of this and use all possibilities when it comes to diplomacy and our intelligence services to prevent such attempts.”

Putin’s comments seemed to refer to the European Union and the United Kingdom, who raised concerns about the perspective of any negotiation between Russia and the US to end the war in Ukraine that does not involve Kiev and the EU.

British Prime Minister Keir Strmer, who should meet with Trump in Washington on Thursday (6), said he would be ready to send British troops to Ukraine as part of any, something Moscow opposes. French President Emmanuel Macron also commented in favor of sending troops.

In other parts of his speech, Putin told FSB heads that cyber attacks against Russia were increasing and Moscow had to reinforce his intelligence efforts.

He also asked FSB to continue his work against “international terrorism” and place a special effort in preventive measures when it comes to protecting military, industrial, transport and energy infrastructures.

Putin said he believed that the West himself is now in the midst of a serious crisis.

“You and I can see that,” he told FSB. “They began to destroy Western society itself inside. This is evidenced by problems in the economies of many Western countries and their internal policies. ”
