Almaty is mostly inhabited by Shiite Muslims and is located in a Christian region.
Lebanon’s health ministry said 20 people, including three children, were killed in an Israeli attack on Sunday in the village of Almat, north of the capital Beirut. Six people were injured. TASR informs on the basis of a report by the AFP agency.
The Shiite Muslim-majority village of Almat is located in a predominantly Christian region outside the traditional strongholds of the pro-Iranian Hezbollah movement in the southern parts of Beirut and in the south and east of the country, which Israel has been bombarding heavily since late September.
Rescue workers linked to Hezbollah were also among the victims of Israeli fire
The Lebanese Ministry of Health also said that three rescuers linked to Hezbollah were killed by Israeli fire. Earlier, the Lebanese media reported on an Israeli attack on a house in the city of Baalbek in the east of the country. The attack was not preceded by a call from the Israeli army for evacuation.
Israel carried out airstrikes on Saturday as well. A total of 33 people died in them.
The war between Hezbollah and Israel has been ongoing since October 8, 2023. According to Hezbollah, its attacks support the Palestinians fighting Israel in the Gaza Strip. However, since September 23, 2024, the conflict has intensified, which is related to the expansion of the Israeli army’s operations against Hezbollah. In total, more than 3,100 people have died on the territory of Lebanon since the beginning of the fighting.
