Speaking at the joint hearing of the Budget and Finance and Health parliamentary committees, as part of the discussion on the OE2025 specialty, Ana Paula Martins highlighted the need to review INEM’s statute, in order to move forward with the refounding of the institute.
The Minister of Health admitted this Tuesday that Pre-Hospital Emergency Technicians (TEPH) could evolve into a more differentiated body of professionals such as paramedics.
In statements at the joint hearing of the Budget and Finance and Health parliamentary committees, as part of the discussion on the State Budget for 2025, Ana Paula Martins highlighted the need to review INEM’s statute, in order to move forward with the refounding of the institute.
In this context, said that INEM should be an institute “more of a regulator than a trainer or provider” (of services)assuming that the training of technicians can be carried out with the support of medical schools.
“But this does not take away the responsibility of [o INEM] always be the financier”, said the minister, remembering that the institute does not depend on the State Budget, as it is financed with insurance funds.
Regarding the refounding of INEM and the evolution of TEPHsaid that most of these technicians will be able to work in medicalized vehicles in the future, even if they are managed by partners.
“It’s like that in many places around the world,” he added.
