Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said this Sunday that the country “is closely following what is happening in Iran”, when commenting on the wave of protests that spread across Iranian territory. The statements were made at the beginning of the weekly cabinet meeting and published by the Israeli team.
The prime minister stated that the Israeli government’s expectation is for a change in the Iranian regime. “We all hope that the Persian nation will soon free itself from the yoke of tyranny,” he declared. For Netanyahu, this scenario would pave the way for a historic rapprochement between the two countries.
“When that day comes, Israel and Iran will once again be loyal partners in building a future of prosperity and peace for both peoples,” said Netanyahu. He stressed that the Israeli position is based on solidarity with the Iranian population, and not on dialogue with the current authorities in Tehran.

Israel “supports their fight for freedom” and “strongly condemns acts of murderous violence against innocent civilians,” the prime minister added.
The speeches come amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, with Iran raising its tone against Israel and the United States and classifying both as “legitimate targets” if there is an offensive against Tehran. Netanyahu, however, limited himself to reiterating that Israel remains attentive to developments and the “heroism” demonstrated, according to him, by Iranian protesters, without commenting on statements by Iranian authorities.
