The draw for the groups for the 2025 Club World Cup already has a date, with eight groups of four teams to be defined among the 32 participants in the championship. On December 5th, at 3pm, the draw will be held in Miami, one of the 11 World Cup venues.
The definition of groups can only be done after the Copa Libertadores final, which will define the last classified, which could still be Atlético-MG or Botafogo. In addition to the Libertadores champion, the other Brazilian teams present will be Flamengo, Fluminense and Palmeiras, already classified.
The groups will be formed in a directed draw, with pots that consider both sporting and geographic factors, and will define the start of the tournament that runs from June 15th to July 13th of next year.
With defined divisions, the two teams that are best placed in each group will proceed to the knockout stages, without a return game, from the round of 16 onwards. In case of a tie, the first criterion to be used is the direct confrontation, followed by goal difference and number of goals scored. In the playoffs, ties will be decided by extra time or a penalty shootout.
What will the Super World Cup be like?
The new edition of the Club World Cup includes 11 cities in the United States, with 12 stadiums spread across them, Orlando with two game venues. Nine of the municipalities are on the East Coast, and the other two are on the West, in Los Angeles and Seattle.
The championship final will be at MetLife Stadium, in New York, and there will be no third place match. The Super Mundial will take place every four years from 2025.
