Parque das Nações receives 70,000 visitors until Wednesday at the 16th edition of the Web Summit, which brings together hundreds of speakers to reflect on the future of technology and AI.
For four days, a thousand speakers and visitors from 160 countries arrive in the capital today to discuss topics such as the role of the European Union and the State in regulating Artificial intelligencethe main topic this edition focuses on.
Paddy CosgraveIrish businessman and founder of the event, Web Summit 2024, which the newspaper even referred to as “the main technological conference in the world”, after have resigned being highly criticized by condemn Western support for the military response of Israel.
At the time, Cosgrave criticized Israel’s stance in this war, which drew criticism from several world leaders and that event.
The controversy has passed, and the event is back stronger than ever.
This year, the event broke the record for the number of startups who are present in Lisbon: around 3 thousand, coming from all over the world (and 125 from Portugal). Out of 16 editions, this is the ninth time that the Web Summit has taken place in Portugal.
Some of the international names visiting the Portuguese capital are Brad Smith, president from Microsoftthe American artist Pharrell Williams and the executive director of Bumble, Lidiane Jones, or even several European Union commissioners.
But also several Portuguese, from Luis Montenegro and government members Cristina Ferreira or the CEO of Unbabel, Vasco Pedro, are present at the event.
According to Jornal de Notícias, the Lisbon City Council approved the application of four million euros in the project, out of a total request of 7.067 million, to guarantee complementary spaces and services for the event, which runs until Friday.
