Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a direct message to Iranians on Tuesday that the government of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is more afraid of the Iranian people than of Israel. TASR informs according to a Reuters report.
“This is why they are spending so much time and money to destroy your hopes and dreams,” Netanyahu said in a video message. “So I say to you: Don’t let your dreams die. I hear whispers: ‘Women, Life, Freedom,'” he added, repeating the last three words in Persian as well.
This slogan was heard during the mass civil protests in Iran that broke out after the death of a young Kurdish woman, Mahsa Aminíova, in September 2022. She died after being detained by the Iranian morality police in Tehran for allegedly violating the dress code for women. “Don’t lose hope. And know that Israel and others in the free world stand with you,” declared the Israeli Prime Minister.
Iran has launched two direct attacks against Israel this year. In April, it fired missiles and drones at Israel in response to an Israeli airstrike on the Iranian consulate in Damascus.
The second strike was carried out on October 1 in retaliation for the killing of a general of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards and leaders of militant groups supported by Iran. On October 26, Israel retaliated with an airstrike on military targets in Iran. Israeli officials subsequently warned Tehran not to respond to the attack.
