With his career at Coritiba marked by his involvement in the sports betting scheme, striker Alef Manga headed the list of dismissals that the club from Paraná announced this Wednesday (13). After completing the 360-day period, the center forward returned to defend the club from Paraná in October this year, in the 3-1 victory over Amazonas. Upon his return, he hit the net and was emotional.

Even with the option of extending the player’s contract for another season, the Paraná board opted to release the top scorer.

In addition to the center forward, striker Róbson, midfielder Figueiredo and defender Maurício Antônio did not have their contracts renewed. Midfielder Yago is also no longer part of the group in the two remaining games of Series B. Through a note on its official website, Coritiba published the list of exemptions.

The person who also said goodbye to the club from Paraná was coach Jorginho, who regretted the fact that he was unable to take Coritiba back to Series A of the Brazilian Championship.

“I apologize to the fans because we gave everything we had, no one was messed up, everyone was working, chasing. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough”, commented the coach in his third spell at the club.

With 50 points, Coritiba reaches the penultimate round in 10th place and with no chance of seeking a place among the top four. This weekend, the team from Paraná returns to the field on Sunday and visits Chapecoense. The last appointment is scheduled for the 24th of this month, when they host Botafogo-SP, at Couto Pereira.
