Gregg Popovich, coach of the San Antonio Spurs, suffered a mild stroke on November 2, according to a statement released by the NBA team. Until then, the outlook is for complete improvement for the coach, who still has no plans for his return to the court.
Since November 4th, Spurs fans were already aware of Popovich’s poor health, but without further details. At the time, the announcement was of a “medical problem”, which occurred on the same day as the dispute between the team and the Minnesota Timberwolves.
On that occasion, interim coach Mike Johnson was present with the team, and will continue until Pop returns to his role. Until then, Johnson had been with the Spurs for six games, of which he had won half.
This Wednesday (13), the team reported that the stroke happened at the beginning of the month, at the Spurs’ arena, the Frost Bank Center. Eleven days after the stroke, the coach is completing a medical recovery program, which has not yet defined whether his return is possible this season, or only the following.
The current season is the twenty-ninth that Popovich has been with the Spurs, making him the longest-serving coach in the NBA. He is also the one who won the most, with 1,391 games won in his career, and five NBA titles as a coach.
