A 68-year-old man lost his life in a fire at a family house in Pribeník in the Trebišov district on Friday. Firefighters found his body without signs of life in one of the rooms. Košice regional police spokeswoman Lenka Ivanová informed about it.
The fire was reported to the emergency services at 07:30. After the fire was extinguished, the police documented the scene. The inspection took place in cooperation with the fire cause investigator of the Fire and Rescue Service (HaZZ), who ruled out third-party culpability. “As the probable cause of the fire, he stated carelessness in smoking with the subsequent spread of the fire to combustible substances, which resulted in intoxication by combustion products and the occurrence of extensive burns,” said Ivanova.
The damage caused by the fire was preliminarily estimated at 5,000 euros. In this connection, an authorized member of the Police Force initiated a criminal prosecution for the crime of murder. “The exact cause of the fire is still the subject of further investigation,” the spokeswoman stated.
