Rio Grande do Sul Civil Police investigated the case; action was carried out 1 day after explosions in Brasília
A hacker suspected of sending emails threatening to blow up the (Supreme Federal Court) was arrested on Thursday (14.Nov.2024) by the Civil Police of Rio Grande do Sul in Jundiaí (SP). The action was carried out through DRCID (Computer Crime and Fraud Repression Police Station) with support from the São Paulo Civil Police.
This action investigates, according to the police, individuals suspected of carrying out racist, extremist, homophobic acts and terrorist threats against public authorities throughout Brazil, such as deputies, senators and Supreme Court Minister Alexandre de Moraes.
The operation also seized computers, tablets, 2 cell phones, pen drives, memories and similar materials. Investigators will analyze all items to determine who committed the crimes and whether other people are involved in the criminal practices being investigated.
Although it is not the focus of the investigation, the police will analyze the seized material to see if there is any connection with the events on Wednesday (Nov 13).
The Rio Grande do Sul police say that the investigations began after a report was registered by a congresswoman, who reported receiving an email containing dozens of death threats, sexual assault and content “racist and extremist“. The threats were also directed at his family.
As the investigations deepened, the agents discovered that the false name used to commit the crime had already been investigated since 2022, with other incidents recorded across the country.
