Marie-Aline Méliyi has established herself in recent years as one of the figures of the LCI channel. It must be said that the journalist has been based there for many years. Indeed, in 2009, she joined the TNT channel as a freelance editor while working on editing reports. Quickly, the young woman was chosen to present the evening slot from 9 p.m. to midnight on LCI Evening. Since 2016, she co-hosts LCI Midi. From the start of the 2020 school year, she becomes the presenter of the debate show It sets the tone. Finally, in September 2022, she takes control of the magazine The Info Clubbroadcast on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and during which she had. A few hours ago, the presenter published a mysterious message on her social networks. “Hello, I have to be away for a while but I will be happy to see you again at the beginning of December on @lciofficiel See you soon!”she wrote in an Instagram story. Rather enigmatic comments accompanied by a selfie from the woman who was born in Courbevoie and who developed an interest in journalism very early on.
While some might think that Marie-Aline Méliyi is away on vacation, it is her use of the verb “duty” that leads us to believe that the journalist, who also posted her message on X (formerly Twitter) was forced to be absent from the air for several weeks. If she says she’ll be back “with pleasure at the beginning of December on @LCI”no details are given concerning the reasons for this unexpected absence. To be continued.
The journalist was attacked for her skin color
The message dates back to 2019 and Marie-Aline Méliyi did not hesitate to share it: “You look like everything we see today. Pillaged thanks to her skin color. Dirty nigger.“The latter then insisted on responding:”This message says a lot about you (…). We’re still here in 2019.” Unspeakable attacks on which she confided to our colleagues at Tele-Leisure : “I didn’t think it would trigger so many reactions and supportshe assured. I was very touched by the expressions of friendship from my colleagues and viewers. When you are black, these types of attacks are part of your life. I’ve had much worse experiences than this one. Besides, my colleagues were almost more shocked than me.“Holding a degree in history and a former student of Sciences Po, she spoke on the issue of diversity on television. “There is a lot of progress that has been made. The lines are moving, but perhaps not as quickly as society”she regretted. She nevertheless wanted to warn against any misinterpretation of her presence in the French audiovisual landscape: “Concerning me, my skin color had no influence on my career. When I arrived at LCI, they didn’t roll out the red carpet for me because I was black. The proof: I was rejected to an internal casting in 2009!”she added.
