From Monday, the ÖBB Tauern Tunnel between Bad Gastein in Salzburg and Mallnitz in Carinthia will be closed for eight months. The more than 100-year-old railway tunnel will be renovated by mid-July. It is one of the most important rail connections across the Austrian Alps. The renovation work has a major impact on rail travelers: The closure also means that the long-distance route between Klagenfurt and Salzburg is cut off.
