About to host the G20 summit, in addition to several events before and during the meeting of heads of state, on the 18th and 19th, Rio de Janeiro recorded a 41% increase in international flights for the period from the 11th to the 20th of November, compared to the same dates last year, according to information from Embratur based on data from ForwardKeys.
The events surrounding the G20 summit will inject R$432.5 million into Rio’s economy. The expenses cover accommodation, food and transport.
At airports, there are 388 international flights during this period, compared to 275 in 2023 on the same days. The countries that showed the biggest increase were the United Arab Emirates (160%), Germany (133%) and the United States (128%).

The number of international seats also recorded practically the same growth, increasing by 42.2%, from 61,939 to 88,088 international seats for Rio between November 11th and 20th. The record holders for the number of seats are Uruguay (191%), Spain (145%) and, again, the United States (127%).
The meeting, which takes place for the first time in Brazil, brings together the 19 largest economies in the world. Brazil holds the presidency of the G-20 from December 1, 2023 to November 30, 2024.
In addition to the official forum meeting and the G20 Social, there are parallel events such as the U20 Rio Summit (meeting of G20 mayors) and the Aliança Global Festival, with cultural programming.
