The alarm has been raised over a suspicious package found near the US embassy, with the Metropolitan Police proceeding with a controlled explosion.
“The US in London has been blocked as police investigate a ‘suspicious package’ nearby. A British police spokesman said: “We are aware of speculation online about an incident near the US embassy in Nine Elms. The area has been cordoned off as a precaution as officers investigate a suspicious package.”
“We can confirm that the loud bang reported in the area a while ago was a controlled explosion caused by police officers. Investigations are continuing and for now the area remains blocked,” she also noted in her post afterwards.
The US embassy in London also said in a post on X that police had closed a road near the embassy building, taking maximum precautions.
