Is back in the real Down Under
Three weeks ago, Emperor Penguin Gus appeared on the west coast of the continent. After his stay in Australia, the keepers have “complete confidence” that he will find his way back to his Antarctic home
At up to 1.20 meters high, emperor penguins are the largest of their kind and can dive deeper for up to 18 minutes than any other bird. “Gus” will probably also appear again and again on his journey home – After all, hungry orcas are also waiting for the fluffy tailcoat off the west coast of Australia.
Perth – An emperor penguin from the Antarctic that was stranded in Australia at the beginning of November is back in the ocean: The bird, christened Gus, was released into the wild on Wednesday from a ship on the south coast of the state of Western Australia, said the Department of Biodiversity and Species Conservation responsible ministry (DBCA). He had previously passed all veterinary health checks.
