Milei will make an agreement with Israel “against terrorism and dictatorship”

Javier Miley

Milei visited Israel in February and caused controversy, both by comparing the Hamas attack to the Holocaust and by announcing his intention to move the Argentine embassy to Jerusalem.

The Argentine President, Javier Mileyannounced that the country is working with Israel on an agreement “in defense of freedom, democracy, combating terrorism and dictatorship”.

Milei made the announcement Thursday, in the Argentine capital, during a meeting with businesspeople from both countries, in which he said that the objective is “strengthen friendship that historically exists between Israel and Argentina.”

In a speech, the head of state highlighted the good relations between Buenos Aires and Tel Aviv, which he considers, together with the United States, Argentina’s “most important geopolitical partner”.

Milei highlighted “the natural affinity he has with the people of Israel, but also the unshakable conviction to accompany, help and work together with the State of Israel” whenever possible.

“Kirchnerists made a memorandum with Iran”

The President justified the memorandum with the Israeli Government by claiming that “the Kirchnerists made a memorandum with Iran”.

In 2013, then Argentine President Cristina Kirchner signed an agreement with Tehran that provided for the creation of a “truth commission” to investigate a bomb attack against the Israeli-Argentine Mutualist Association in Buenos Aires in 1994.

The agreement, which would allow Argentine prosecutors to travel to Iran to interrogate the accused, was ratified by the Buenos Aires Congress, but not by the Iranian Parliament.

They signed spurious pacts of silence and complicity in crime“, accused Milei, who argued that his Government has advanced with “sanctions, alliances in defense of justice and freedom”.

Hours earlier, the Argentine President criticized the International Criminal Court (ICC) against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.

The decision ignores “Israel’s legitimate right to defend itself in the face of constant attacks by terrorist organizations such as Hamas and Hezbollah”, wrote Milei on the social network X.

Milei visited Israel in February and caused controversy, both by comparing the Hamas attack to the Holocaust and by announcing his intention to move the Argentine embassy to Jerusalem.

The government of former President Mauricio Macri (2015-2019) had already classified Hezbollah as a terrorist organization. In July of this year, Milei classified Hamas.

The President will not recant and we do not speak to terrorist groups”, assured the Minister of Security at the time, Patricia Bullrich, in statements to Lusa. President Javier Milei accuses Iran of being behind the attacks both in Argentina and Israel, on October 7th.

“To be clear and there is no doubt: the terrorism of that tragic October 7th is exactly the same terrorism that attacked us 30 years ago. These are sectors linked to Iran: Hezbollah and Hamas. Therefore, Iranian terrorism is a matter of national interest that directly affects the lives of Argentines”, said Milei during the World Jewish Congress in Buenos Aires, in the context of the 30th anniversary of the AMIA attack.
