Germany will provide Ukraine with two IRIS-T air defense systems by the end of the year. This was announced by German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock during the final day of the meeting of the heads of diplomacy of the G7 group in the Italian town of Fiuggi. The station Deutschlandfunk reported about it.

Baerbocková recalled that since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, Germany provided more than 37 billion euros in aid not only for the protection of Ukraine, “but also for our own protection”.

At the beginning of September, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz promised to deliver additional IRIS-T air defense systems to Ukraine. Eight IRIS-T SLM systems and nine IRIS-T SLS systems were bindingly ordered, while two sets of each type will be delivered this year, the others from 2025.

IRIS-T systems are produced by the German arms company Diehl Defence. In mid-November, the US allowed the Ukrainian army to attack targets in Russia with American ATACMS missiles, which Kyiv has used at least three times so far, TASR adds.
