United States President Donald Trump published a message of support to former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), which accuses the Brazilian government of promoting a “witch hunt” against the ally.
According to the Republican, Bolsonaro was being the target of political persecution “day after day” and should be tried only by the electorate, “in an election.”
“Brazil is doing a terrible thing in his treatment of former President Jair Bolsonaro. He is not guilty of anything except for fighting the people,” Trump wrote on the Truth Social network. The American also stated that Brazil will “not tolerate” the way Bolsonaro and his family are being treated, and promised to “closely follow” the case.

The demonstration occurs amid the advance of investigations against Bolsonaro in the Federal Supreme Court (STF), including complaints of participation in the attempted coup d’état on 8 January 2023. Brazil is doing something terrible in the treatment of former President Jair Bolsonaro. I have been following, just like the world, while they do nothing but chase it, day after day, night after night, month after month, year after year! He is not guilty of anything except for fighting for the people. I met Jair Bolsonaro, and he was a strong leader who really loved his country – besides being a very hard negotiator in trade. His election has been very tight and now he is leading in the polls. This is nothing more, no less, than an attack on a political opponent – something I know very well! This has happened to me, times 10, and now our country is the “warmest” in the world! The great people of Brazil will not accept what they are doing to their former president. I will be very closely following witch hunt against Jair Bolsonaro, his family and thousands of his supporters. The only judgment that should happen is the judgment by Brazil’s voters – this is called election. Leave Bolsonaro alone!
