The PSOL bench decided to launch the candidacy of pastor Henrique Vieira (PSOL-RJ) in the dispute for the presidency of the Chamber of Deputies. The official launch will take place this Tuesday afternoon (26).

In the announcement, the party intends to present the management program with the main points for running the Legislature.

By making his candidacy official, Vieira will be the only candidate to compete for the position with the favorite of President Arthur Lira (PP-AL) and almost all parties, deputy Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB), so far.

Previously, the dispute for succession to the Chamber included candidates Elmar Nascimento (União-BA) and Antonio Brito (PSD-BA). However, both decided to give up their candidacy to support Motta.

PSOL has 13 federal deputies and is trying to get a name in the dispute, just as it did in the last election against Lira, in which it nominated deputy Chico Alencar (PSOL-RJ).

At the beginning of this month, Motta won the support of PSDB, Cidadania, PSB and PDT for his candidacy. He now has the formal support of eighteen parties, in addition to the support of President Lira, which totals more than 400 votes, while 257 votes are needed for the election – the absolute majority of the 513 deputies.

The election that will define the new Board of Directors is scheduled for the beginning of February, with the date still being confirmed. In addition to the position of president, the occupants of the roles of 1st and 2nd vice-presidents, and 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th secretaries, who make up the Board of Directors of the Chamber, will be defined.
