The Prime Minister of France, François Bayrou, has announced that his government will be submitted in September in the National Assembly to a matter of trust that, if fails, will mean the immediate fall of the Executive, in a new order in search of support for budgets questioned from the opposition.
The ‘economic map’ presented by Bayrou in mid -July contemplates, including the elimination of two national holidays or the freezing of public benefits.
“There is an immediate danger,” Bayrou has warned, during a public appearance in which he has been especially alarmed by the Constant increase in the volume of public debt, which closed 2024 at levels close to 113 percent of GDP.
“For 20 years, every hour of day and night, the debt has increased additional 12 million euros,” added Bayrou, which has finally resorted to the tool of the issue of trust to leave in the hands of the deputies not only the approval of the measures but also the continuity of the government.
It will be at the end of an extraordinary session on September 8, two days before the social mobilization convened by the left to question in the streets some budgets that, as they allege, punish the middle class and barely touch the large fortunes or companies.
Bayrou has admitted that the political balance that represents the parliamentary initiative, but also pointed out that it trusts that, Seen the “risk”, the French “become aware” of the severity of the situation and accept “participate in the effort” asked from public institutions.
In this sense, he has loaded against those who intend to promote “disorder” and “chaos” and has urged the deputies to put aside “political labels” and vote in conscience so as not to run the same fate as the previous prime minister, Michel Barnier, overthrown in December in a motion of censure.
The left and the ultra -right, against Bayrou
Contrary to what has happened in the latest censorship motions, in which the lack of unity of the opposition has facilitated the survival of the Bayroun government, both the ultra -right and the left have responded to the announcement of the prime minister giving for granted that he has the days counted.
“There is no majority for him,” said the deputy of France Insumisa (LFI) Jean-Luc Mélenchon. The leftist leader has celebrated at least that the prime minister has agreed to ask for the confidence of the Assembly, as opposed to the “strength coup” exercised from the Elysee by President Emmanuel Macron, who “refuses to recognize the results of the latest elections.”
For his part, the national group leader, Jordan Bardella, has pointed out that what Bayrou has announced is “the end of his government”, making it clear that his bench will not provide him with the request requested. “Our compatriots expect an alternation and a return to the polls: we are ready,” has added.
