Who is Viktor Gyokeres
Born in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden, Gyokeres played for smaller clubs until arriving at Sporting, in July 2023. The 26-year-old striker started his career at Brommapojkarna and soon caught the attention of Brighton, in England.
Without space at the English club, Gyokeres was loaned twice, to St. Pauli, in Germany, and to Swansea, in Wales.
In 2021, he was signed by Coventry to compete for the English Premier League and in his first season he scored 17 goals. In the following season, there were 21 goals and 12 assists.
The weight of the Swedish striker’s arrival at Sporting is evident in the figures involved in his transfer. The 20 million euro (R$107 million at the time) negotiation was the most expensive in the club’s history.
Successful celebration
In addition to the truckload of goals, Gyokeres also draws attention for his celebrations. He interlocks his fingers and covers his mouth after shaking his opponents’ nets.
In June, the Swede revealed inspiration from Batman villain Bane and cited a phrase associated with the character. “Nobody cared until I put it on the mask.” In Portuguese, “No one cared until I put on the mask”.
The phrase remembered by Gyokeres became famous in the film “Batman: The Dark Knight”, where big names were present, such as Christian Bale and Heath Ledger.
