Vítor Cântara, 64, lived in his car for a month, parked at the back of a shopping mall in Maia, until his story was revealed in a video recorded by a group of 4 young people who ended up changing his life.
“I have no words. I never thought recording that video would help me so much. It was four guardian angels who took me off the street”, said Vítor, emotionally.
Suffering from epilepsy, Vítor faces frequent crises that have already taken him to the hospital. Regarding his current situation, he stated: “I behaved very badly and this may be the payback. The truth is that I had a lot and today I have nothing. I’m sick and I live on 237 euros a month.”
Despite the difficulties, it was only after the video was published that the City Hall and Social Security found a room.
Joana Santos, one of the young people responsible for the initiative, explained: “I couldn’t remain indifferent to what you told me. I’m happy to be helping.” The video recording, in addition to giving visibility to Vítor’s situation, highlighted the power of solidarity in transforming lives.
