According to Josep Borrelli, the European Union will continue to help Lebanon. He highlights how important it is that displaced citizens can get home.

EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell called on Israel and the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah to respect the ceasefire. TASR informs about it based on the report of the DPA agency.

“It is now crucial to uphold the ceasefire as agreed to guarantee the safety of people in Lebanon and Israel and to allow displaced persons on both sides of the border to return to their homes,” Borrell said in a statement on Thursday.

The head of EU diplomacy also demanded respect for the sovereignty of both states and a stop to cross-border attacks. At the same time, he called on regional and international actors to actively support the ceasefire and emphasized that the EU will continue humanitarian aid and support for the reconstruction of Lebanon.

The ceasefire went into effect on Wednesday morning, ending intense fighting between Hezbollah and Israel after more than a year of war. However, both sides already accused each other of violating the ceasefire agreement on Thursday.
