Pastor and former deputy Flordelis dos Santos de Souza, sentenced to 50 years in prison for the death of her husband Anderson do Carmo, was one of the participants in a musical competition promoted last Thursday (28) by the Rio Penitentiary Administration Secretariat of January.
However, the nun, who is also a singer, was not the winner of the competition, which had 17 finalists. Flordelis’ Instagram profile published a photo of the participants with the caption “The Voice from prison”, in reference to the TV Globo freshman program.
The “Voz da Liberdade” competition was held at the Instituto Penal Djanira Dolores de Oliveira, in Bangu, in the west zone of Rio. In total, around 150 people participated, including 21 trans women.
According to the secretariat, the participants took to the stage musical styles such as MPB, axé, pop, samba, country music and praise.
The ministry states that the competition’s main objective is to “show society that, in addition to the sentences these prisoners serve due to the crimes they committed, there are women in recovery, with great talent, who can and really want to leave the life of the crime behind and one day return to contributing positively to society and their families”.
Remember the Flordelis case
for the death of her husband Anderson do Carmo, 42 years old, in 2019. He was shot dead in the early hours of June 16, 2019, in the garage of the house where he lived with his family in Pendotiba, in the city of Niterói, metropolitan region of Rio .
In April of this year, the court decided to uphold the former deputy’s conviction.
According to the Public Ministry, of the pastor’s 55 biological and adopted children, seven are involved in the crime, in addition to a granddaughter and two other people. The MP also mentions that, on several occasions, Flordelis tried to manipulate witnesses in the process investigating Anderson do Carmo’s death.
