Aguiar-Branco called the firefighters in front of a PS furious with “disgusting” Chega deputies. “The Portuguese are fed up with the circus” of Ventura, which “makes Pinocchio blush”, said Hugo Soares.
Before starting the final global vote on the State Budget for 2025 (OE2025), this Friday, the Chega hung banners on four windows of the Assembly of the Republic to complain against the end of cuts in politicians’ salaries.
“OE2025 increases politicians’ salaries. Shame”, read, outside, on the posters hanging in the windows of the building, in protest against the elimination of one in the salaries of State leaders foreseen in the Budget.
He was “political vandalization” said the president of the Assembly of the Republic about André Ventura’s party posters, which were also hung inside Parliament: “it has nothing to do with freedom of expression, but with respect”.
Aguiar-Branco threatened to call the firefightersand did so, to remove the posters if Chega did not do so immediately. “I regret, I repudiate and it is a failure to comply with the rules for the defense of national heritage”, he highlighted.
“If they are not removed, firefighters will retreat outside, don’t expect me to break down the office doors,” said Aguiar-Branco, “surprised” by the “advertising” posters that have no place in the Parliament windows.
“Have the posters removed immediately”
The PS also immediately demanded the removal of the posters and the suspension of the plenary session. “This AR must not gather something that is a form of coercionwhich we will not accept. It is a form of coercion, have it removed immediately the posters”, said parliamentary leader Alexandra Leitão.
Socialist Sérgio Sousa Pinto, on the other hand, confessed that “the work cannot be dependent on half a dozen deputies, no matter how disgusting they are”he said, after Leitão asked for the session to be postponed, which ended up continuing, with four PS deputies voting against the parliamentary leader’s request.
“We can ignore misbehaving children but we have a duty to the Brazilian people. It left a pragmatic solution. Chega is not afraid of the security forces restoring order. The security forces can guarantee that no one will touch anything in Chega’s offices”, said Pedro Delgado Alves.
Ventura “lies”: “makes Pinocchio blush”
“The Portuguese are fed up with circuses”, said Hugo Soares for the PSD: “in the house of democracy, not everything counts”, he said, saying that Ventura “can make Pinocchio blush”.
“This OE doesn’t even increase politicians’ salaries, it increases pensions,” said the social democrat, accusing Chega of lying.
“Let us begin our work!” asked Paulo Núncio, parliamentary leader of the CDS-PP, repeatedly. “Stop giving time and space to actors of acts of vandalism.”
“Better than LGBT flags”, says Ventura
The leader of Chega justified that it is a “communication action for the outside world”.
“It’s better than when the LGBT flags were spread out,” he added.
“We protest in the way we see fit, we don’t damage property, we don’t set cars on fire or attack police officers,” said Pedro Pinto do Chega afterwards.
Ventura later said that his party would remove the posters after the vote on OE2025: “Of course it is not vandalism”, he reinforced.
