Leicester City chose Ruud van Nistelrooy as the new coach to replace the fired Steve Cooper, the Premier League club announced this Friday (29). The Dutchman has signed until June 2027.
Newly promoted, they chose to fire Cooper, who spent 157 days in the role, last Sunday (24), after the home defeat to Chelsea.
Van Nistelrooy, in turn, left a good impression recently, when he took charge of Manchester United on an interim basis, between the dismissal of Erik ten Hag and .

In command of the first team, the Dutchman managed three wins and a draw in four matches. He expressed interest in remaining on Manchester United’s permanent commission.
“I’m proud and excited. Everyone I talk to about Leicester City is excited,” said the former striker. “They have great stories about the quality of the people who work at the club, the fans and of course the recent history of the club is impressive.”
Leicester tries to avoid “yo-yo effect”
Leicester surprised the football world by becoming Premier League champions in the 2015-16 season, but ended up being relegated in 2023. They returned to the elite the following season, under the command of Enzo Maresca, now Chelsea coach.
Now, they want to avoid another relegation. In 12 rounds, the club accumulated 10 points, with just two victories.
“Ruud’s experience, knowledge and winning mentality will undoubtedly add great value to us. We look forward to supporting him in achieving success for our fans and club,” said Leicester chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha.
Van Nistelrooy debut
In the next round, this Saturday (30), for the 13th round of the Premier League. Ben Dawson will continue as interim coach, and Van Nistelrooy will take over against West Ham, Tuesday (3), at home.

Former Manchester United striker Van Nistelrooy also played for PSV Eindhoven and Real Madrid, scoring 349 club goals, as well as 35 in 70 appearances for the Netherlands.
As a coach, the Dutchman led PSV in the 2022-23 season, where they won the Dutch Cup, before accepting to be part of Ten Hag’s team at United.
