Disagree but it is not enough reason to veto the State Budget. President of the Republic praises PSD and CDS, and thanks PS.
The President of the Republic praised this Saturday the openness to negotiation of the Government parties, PSD and CDS-PP, in the budget process for 2025 and the “sense of State” of the PS, which the Budget through abstention.
This position was conveyed by Marcelo Rebelo de Souza speaking to journalists after visiting the Banco Alimentar Contra a Fome, in Lisbon.
“You know I I fought hard for there to be a State Budget and I fought hard so that there would be no political crisis and no need for new elections. With the world as it is and Europe as it is, we need stability and predictability. And the Budget is fundamental to this”, maintained the head of State.
The President of the Republic praised then “the Government and government parties [PSD e CDS], because they realized they had to negotiate and to have a large opening in the Budget”.
“I wanted thank PS the sense of State when abstaining, whether in the final global vote or in the general vote”, he added.
In this context, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa considered that “all parties, in one way or another, were passing their proposals and were here and there helping to make more consensual the Budget”.
“When there is a minority Government, it is very important to have this consensual side in terms of the Budget. AND Budget terms is a guarantee“, he considered.
Against the end of cuts
Marcelo spoke out contra the Budget measure that already applies to current holders politicians o end of 5% cut of yours salaries, arguing that it should only apply to future mandates.
