Poor water drainage from the shower tray is an unpleasant and unfortunately common problem. Fortunately, in most cases we can get rid of it without the involvement of a plumber. In addition, home remedies can be enough, which are cheaper and more ecological than preparations bought in a store.

A clogged shower tray drain is a problem that most of us have probably struggled with more than once. Collecting water makes showering after a long day unpleasant and often adds to the unpleasant smell that spreads through the bathroom. We can deal with both of these aspects with one simple method. We need aspirin and vinegar.

A clogged drain can be prevented, but it’s not easy. Dirt accumulates in the pipes practically after every shower. One of the main culprits of clogged pipes is hair, including both shampooing and waxing. There are also oils and other particles contained in cosmetic products, for example in peelings. Ideally, of course, they should be removed regularly, but this is easily forgotten. On the other hand, when we think about it, we are running out of time. So how can we address a situation we have neglected?

We should start cleaning the shower drain by removing all parts, including the filter. Individual parts should be thoroughly cleaned, especially the filter. A sponge with dishwashing detergent or warm water with baking soda is sufficient for this. In the second method, it is best to immerse the filter in such a bath for a certain time. We should be able to remove even the worst dirt, for example hair, from the exposed drain without any problems. In the next step, two aspirin tablets are thrown into the drain (the average price of one tablet is only a few cents) and then they are poured with a liter of pre-boiled vinegar. A reaction will occur in the pipe and we will hear a characteristic bubbling sound. Foam may also appear, but there is no need to worry about that – this is exactly the effect we want to achieve. After about five minutes, pour a liter of boiling water down the drain to flush any remaining sediment from the pipe. But what to do if it doesn’t help?

If the method described above does not clear the drain, you are probably dealing with a more serious blockage that no amount of mixture will remove. In this case, a rubber piston / bell will come in handy, which by creating pressure pushes the remaining impurities into the wider parts of the pipe, from where they should flow.

In conclusion, it should be emphasized that it is best to prevent the problem and try to clean the drain regularly if possible. Salt and water are enough for preventive cleaning. Put five tablespoons of salt in the drain and pour two liters of boiling water into it. We recommend doing this at least once a week.
