A linguistic legacy of the outgoing federal government lies in the term “Sideletter”. If a sideletter is generally understood to be a subsidiary agreement which, according to the will of the sovereign contracting parties, is intended to supplement or amend a main contract, the sideletter was practiced in political business as an agreement whose significance was apparently no less relevant than the main agreement (the ÖVP coalition agreement and Greens), but which should remain hidden from the public, the voters, and ultimately from the sovereign.
