Scholz last visited Kyiv in June 2020.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz arrived on Monday in the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, where he will hold talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. TASR reports according to the Reuters and DPA agencies.
This is Scholz’s first visit to Kyiv in two and a half years. The route was not announced in advance for safety reasons.
In addition to negotiations with Zelensky, Scholz plans to officially announce further deliveries of weapons to strengthen Ukraine’s defense in the fight against Russia worth 650 million euros by the end of December.
“I would like to make it clear that Germany will remain the strongest supporter of Ukraine in Europe,” said the German chancellor, who traveled to Kyiv on a special train, upon his arrival. He was quoted by the German public broadcaster ZDF.
