The Minister of Women, , says she is concerned and outraged by the approval of the in the country on Wednesday (27).
In a video, she states that the PEC ends women’s rights, which have been in the Penal Code since 1940.
Today, in Brazil it is authorized in three cases: pregnancy resulting from rape, risk to the woman’s life and fetal anencephaly. With the text of the PEC, the ban would also advance in these cases.
“This puts women’s lives at risk and once again shows a lack of commitment to the reality that we are living in a country where every six minutes a woman and a girl suffer sexual violence. This ends up being an affront to whoever makes the report or for those who need legal abortion services”, says the minister.
“We need to have a country that does not take back any of women’s rights, no less rights. We need to guarantee what has been guaranteed to us since 1940”, he adds.
Cida states that the department will talk to social movements and Congress “to see if it is possible to guarantee what is already in the legislation”.
With approval by the CCJ, it will be up to the president of the Chamber, (PP-AL), to create a special commission to debate the merits of the proposal. The commission can have up to 40 sessions (and may end earlier) and, if approved by this committee, it goes to the House plenary to be considered in two rounds.
