Moraes authorizes transfer of those investigated in the coup investigation

The minister of the (STF) authorized this Monday (2) the transfer of Army reserve general Mário Fernandes and major Rodrigo Bezerra de Azevedo to Brasília.

The military were investigated during the government of former president Jair Bolsonaro and were, in Rio de Janeiro, in Operation Countercoup, by the Federal Police (PF).

In Brasília, the accused will be detained at the Planalto Military Command (CMP) facilities and will be able to receive visits from their wives, children and lawyers. All other visits must be authorized in advance by the minister.

Mário Fernandes is one of those indicted by the PF in the coup investigation. Rafael Bezerra remains under investigation and has not been charged.

Last week, in which Jair Bolsonaro and other defendants were indicted for the attempted coup and sent the case to the Attorney General’s Office (PGR).

With the sending of the Federal Police (PF) report, the Attorney General of the Republic, Paulo Gonet, will decide whether the former president and the other accused will be reported to the Supreme Court for the crimes alleged by the investigators.

Due to the year-end recess at the Supreme Court, any complaint must only be sent to the Court in 2025. The recess begins on December 20th and runs until February 1st of next year.
