The three mayors who won the October dispute in the capitals of the South region – Eduardo Pimentel (Curitiba), Topázio Neto (Florianópolis) and Sebastião Melo (Porto Alegre) – did not want to comment on the indictment of the former president (PL), the plot coup plotter organized to keep him in power after the 2022 electoral defeat and the assassination plan for President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), vice-president Geraldo Alckmin (PSB) and the minister of the STF (Supreme Federal Court) Alexandre de Moraes.
This Tuesday (3), the Sheet He sought out the advisors of the elected mayors asking for their statement on the facts involving Bolsonaro, but they preferred not to make statements. All three politicians were, an acronym that was responsible for nominating their respective candidates for vice mayor on the tickets.
The current vice-mayor of , Eduardo Pimentel (PSD), was elected mayor in October with former federal deputy Paulo Martins (PL) in the vice-chair. Martins has also been announced to occupy the Secretariat of Economic Development.
Among Pimentel’s political godfathers is the governor of Ratinho Junior (PSD), also an ally of Bolsonaro. In , Ratinho Junior said that “indictment is not synonymous with conviction”.
“It is even necessary to wait so that the investigation work is not compromised, and the accused are not victims of any hasty value judgment”, he declared.
The elected mayor of , Topázio Neto (PSD), has councilor Maryanne Mattos, from PL, as vice-president. In the campaign, Topázio received the support of the governor of , Jorginho Mello, from PL.
One day after Bolsonaro’s indictment, the governor of Santa Catarina published on social media a photo alongside the former president and a message in which he said that “Brazil recognizes those who fought for their homeland, family and freedom.”
“Here, in Santa Catarina, the commitment to the values that unite us is unshakable,” he wrote.
Re-elected mayor of , Sebastião Melo (MDB) also has a PL representative in the vice chair, veterinarian and Army lieutenant colonel Betina Worm.
The PSDB of governor Eduardo Leite was not part of Melo’s alliance. In , Leite recognized the seriousness of the facts.
“Once the evidence is proven, everyone involved in this plot, at all levels, needs to receive rigorous punishment. Any action aimed at destabilizing our democratic system must be severely combated,” he said.
According to the Federal Police, the former president in the country, which would include murder of authorities.
Bolsonaro has denied that he attempted a coup d’état. He is ineligible until 2030, by decision of the Electoral Court, due to the lies he propagated about the electoral system and the political use of events linked to the Bicentenary of Independence.
