Front asks the deputy, supported by government supporters, to approve anti-MST texts; he says he is “committed” to the agenda
The (Agricultural Parliamentary Front) of Congress, known as the ruralist bench, formalized this Tuesday (Dec 3, 2024) support for the deputy (Republicanos-PB) for the presidency of the Chamber in 2025. The bloc listed to the deputy a list with priority projects, which include anti-MST projects (Landless Rural Workers Movement) and the time frame for indigenous lands.
The formalization was done at a lunch at the front headquarters. Motta, who is a member of the block, said he was “committed to the agenda” of ruralists. The decision could cause tension with the government base, which also endorsed the candidate.
Among the proposals, there is the PL (Bill) that prohibits land invasions from participating in government aid programs, such as Minha Casa, Minha Vida. The text is in the Senate, but may return for analysis by deputies if it undergoes changes.
The Agro front has 340 congressmen. There are 290 deputies and 50 senators.
SUCCESSION IN THE CHAMBER
Motta is supported by 17 parties. The benches represent 488 deputies, but as the vote is secret and individual, this does not guarantee automatic membership. For the candidate to be elected, he needs the vote of 257 congressmen.
So far, only Avante, Novo and Psol have not declared support for Motta. The latter launched his own candidate in the dispute, the deputy (Psol-RJ).
