LAS VEGAS (Reuters) – Amazon announced a new series of artificial intelligence platforms, known as foundational models, at its annual AWS conference, enabling the generation of text, images and video, among other functionalities.
The new offerings put it on par with rivals like Adobe and Meta, which are in a race to serve customers who want to automate more of their services.
Amazon’s chief executive, Andy Jassy, announced the new “Nova” models at a conference in Las Vegas this Tuesday (04). Jassy said developers had a wish list, which motivated the new services.

“They want better latency. They want a lower cost. They want the ability to fine-tune,” Jassy said.
The announcements mark Amazon’s biggest step yet to combat its reputation for having lagged behind in the development of , while competitors leapt ahead.
Amazon’s head of general artificial intelligence, Rohit Prasad, said the company will compete with rivals in terms of price and features, highlighting what he said were faster speeds for the new models. “If I have something better to offer, then customers will come and use it,” he said in an interview.

“It’s still very early” when it comes to AI development, and Amazon has an opportunity to take the lead as a result, he added.
