Zamioculky will beautifully decorate any room with their thick, shiny leaves. To make them shine, you need to take good care of them. This includes cleaning them regularly to prevent dust from settling on them. What to use and how to wipe them? We present a proven method using a product from the kitchen.
Many people choose zamiokulkas to decorate their home because of the ease of care. You could say that it is an ideal plant for forgetful people because it does not need to be watered too often. In addition, in a place with a small amount of light, new shoots will quickly sprout. However, it is worth wiping the leaves of the plant regularly with a cotton swab or a soft cloth soaked in a mixture of kitchen products. The leaves will thus remain shiny and nourished.
Cotton swab and water – the easiest way to wipe zamiokulk leaves
Dust accumulates on the leaves of zamiokulk rather quicklywhich worsens its appearance, but also clogs the stomata, so the plant cannot “breathe” freely. That is why cleaning the plant is so important. Some people put it in the shower and clean the whole plant. This is not a good solution, because the plant does not like to be watered too much, and with such a bath it will easily overflow. We therefore recommend taking the time to wipe each sheet one at a time. The easiest way is to soak a cotton pad in soft water at room temperature and wring it out. Then wipe each zamiokulka leaf with it.
How to clean and nourish zamiokulk leaves?
Mix the water with a specific kitchen product that not only cleans but also nourishes the zamiokulk leaves, namely milk. Simply mix water and milk in a ratio of 1:1 and soak a cotton pad in the mixture, then wipe the leaves with it. Milk contains the minerals potassium, magnesium and calcium, which support healthy plant growth. Due to the content of these components, dairy products can also be used as natural nutrition for zamiokulkas. Therefore, you need to pour this mixture directly into the substrate. Minerals are better absorbed because the plant receives them through the roots. This milky fertilizer is also suitable for sansevieria, ficus, ferns and palm trees in pots. However, it should not be applied too often, as too much will make the soil too acidic. It is therefore best to fertilize the plants once a month.
Not just milk. Another way to get shiny and nutritious zamiokulk leaves
If you don’t have milk on hand, you can use a banana peel instead. In this case, you do not need a cotton swab or a soft cloth. Wipe the leaves of the plant with the inside of a banana peel, which is rich in valuable minerals, ie potassium, phosphorus, calcium, magnesium, silicon, sulfur. You can prepare natural food from banana peels. For this purpose cover them with hot water, soak it for 24 hours and then add the solution to the zamiokulka substrate once a month. We recommend using banana fertilizer for other plants as well, such as monsters, ficuses and orchids.
