Donald Trump continues to place its closest allies in positions of power in its next Government. The elected president of USA announced on Thursday that it will sign the investor David Sacksone of his main fundraisers in Silicon Valley, at the head of a new department that he will create to promote the artificial intelligence (AI) and cryptocurrenciestwo crucial technology industries for the new Trump administration.
“David will guide the Administration’s policy on Artificial Intelligence and Cryptocurrencies, two areas critical to the future of American competitiveness. David will focus on making USA the clear global leader in both areas,” Trump said in a message on his social network, Truth Social. Sacks, whom he has defined as “the czar of White House of the IA and cryptocurrencies,” he would also direct the Presidential Council of Advisors for Science and Technology.
Born in South Africa 52 years ago, Sacks is a prolific venture capitalist who became known in the American technology industry as chief operating officer of PayPalelectronic payments firm where he met Elon Musk y Peter Thieltwo of its founders and Trumpist allies. The sale of its workplace communications company Yammer to Microsoft, as well as its initial investments in companies such as Facebook, Uber, SpaceX, Airbnb o Palantirthey made him a multimillionaire.
“I am honored and grateful for the trust you have placed in me,” Sacks responded in a message posted on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. “I look forward to boosting American competitiveness in these critical technologies.”
Sacks has used that position of power to support Trump, but also his president, J.D. Vance. In recent months, this fervent Trumpist has acted as a bridge between the Republican leader and Silicon Valleymecca of the American technology industry, organizing all kinds of fundraising events among the elite of that sector to give wings to the Republican presidential campaign.
Clear path for the crypto industry
Now, Trump is rewarding him with a position (yet to be created) that is expected to cut regulations on the IA adopted by the administration of Joe Biden and that helps create a legal framework so that the cryptocurrency industry “has the clarity it has been asking for” and can operate without restrictions in USA.
The president-elect has promised that Sacks, a fervent critic of the progressive movement that he calls woke“will safeguard freedom of expression in Internet and it will distance us from the prejudices and censorship of big technology.”
