Next Tuesday (10), 26 states and the Federal District will sign regional action plans to join the program in an event that should take place at the governors’ forum meeting in Brasília.
The signed plans formalize the states’ proposal to implement the program, launched in April and one of the most expensive for the president (PT). There is already a budget of R$1.2 billion reserved to encourage putting the initiative into practice.
The topic had already been discussed by the Minister (Health) at the last meeting held by the governors, on November 28th. On the occasion, the minister detailed the intention to perform more than 1 million elective surgeries through the program by 2026.
The ministry will provide financial assistance to reduce waiting lists for surgeries. The patient would be sent to a place for consultations and exams, and the Health Department would be responsible for supervising the service so that everything takes place within a maximum of 60 days.
