The National Directorate approved by a narrow margin this Saturday (7), in Brasília, a resolution that criticizes what it calls “Faria Lima’s tricks” and demands a reformulation of the government’s communication.
There were only 4 votes difference in favor of the text prepared by the party’s majority current, the CNB (Construindo um Novo Brasil), 42 to 38.
As is tradition in the PT, the text can still be amended by suggestions from the party’s other internal currents.
The nine pages of the document, which does not directly address the merits of the recent package of cuts announced by the government and which was received with distrust by the market, states that Lula is having success in the economic and social area, with emphasis on and also.
Despite this, says the party, the market and the president of , , who is mentioned by name in the text and called , would be trying to sabotage this work.
“Civil society needs to remain vigilant and face Faria Lima’s antics that aim to undermine economic and social achievements through speculation”, says the text, referring to the surge in the dollar after the announcement for those earning up to R$5,000 per month.
“Speculators promoted the biggest rise in the dollar in history (…) The method is clear: the speculators acted after learning that the government’s tax measures included exemption from income tax for those earning up to R$5,000 per month. This is a clearly political maneuver to weaken the government and prevent it from continuing to advance on the path of development and social justice”, says the document.
The PT also stands in the resolution in favor of zero fares on public transport, the end of the 6×1 scale at work and the settlement of 60 thousand MST (Landless Rural Workers Movement) families, in addition to the regulation of online betting.
As is already public, the party is also against amnesty on January 8, 2023 and once again defended the PEC (Proposed Amendment to the Constitution) to amend article 142 of the Constitution so as to no longer allow interpretations that the Armed Forces can be considered a moderating Power.
The text also defends the reformulation of government communication and .
According to the party, “Lula has a great government that just needs to adjust the way he communicates and informs his people.” The deliveries “are not translating into an increase in the popularity of Lula and his administration”, states the text.
“The president should also not give up the communication tools at his disposal. The use of national radio and TV broadcasts should be a constant in the activities of the Presidency and the ministers who are part of crucial portfolios, and not a limited strategy to dates like September 7th.”
The and promised changes.
“There is a government error in the matter of communication and I am obliged to make the necessary corrections”, stated the president, in a virtual message for the closing session of the seminar “The Brazilian Reality and the Challenges of the Workers’ Party”, an event that preceded this Saturday’s meeting.
Despite being one of the parties whose congressmen are among those most benefiting from parliamentary amendments, the text prepared by the CNB criticizes the model, saying that the lack of transparency about it and its volume were some of the reasons for the party’s poor performance in municipal elections.
According to the text, the model “has taken the federative pact to the limit of absurdity and continues to challenge the current model of presidentialism.”
