Why is Geromel retiring?
In September, the defender announced his decision to retire at the end of the current season.
— I would like to inform you that I have decided to retire at the end of the year. As I have always had a lot of respect and affection for the fans, I would like them to know from me. I know there are still two months left until the end of the year and I will continue to do my best, as I have always done in the last decade for Grêmio — said the defender, at a press conference.
At 39 years old, Geromel did not reveal his plans after retirement, but he said that he does not think about working in football, in a recent interview with “GE”.
— I could definitely (play longer). But I no longer have the desire to make so much sacrifice, I have been doing this daily for more than 20 years. I have a family, I have children, I have friends, I want to do other things besides football. — declared the defender.
