Podcast

Bashar al-Assad’s regime has fallen in Syria, and the president’s whereabouts are uncertain. In Ukraine the war continues, on the way to another sad Christmas marked by conflict. Listen here to Nuno Rogeiro’s analysis on East/West of SIC Notícias

Bashar al-Assad ruled for 24 years. Neighboring Türkiye welcomes victory for Islamic rebels. At the moment there are still more questions than answers, but “Russia, Iran and North Korea are three of the biggest losers from the fall of the regime in Syria”, says Nuno Rogeiro.

In Europe, the great Romanian mystery is installed, with the Constitutional Court annulling the first round of the presidential elections, won by a pro-Russian candidate. In France, the reconstruction of Notre Dame brought together several political leaders in Paris, with a special focus on the meeting between Zelensky and Trump, mediated by Macron. The war continues in Kharkiv, but the city has offered some hope to children who spend their lives in underground schools.

Listen to Nuno Rogeiro’s analysis in the podcast version of the Leste/Oeste program, broadcast on SIC Notícias on December 8th and conducted by journalist Nelma Serpa Pinto.

Nuno Rogeiro’s analysis of the themes that mark current international affairs. Every Sunday, at 2pm, East/West on SIC Notícias and on podcast. Listen to more episodes:
