A well-known Slovak got a shock at the airport after returning from the World Cup in Hockey: He paid for the parking fee… More expensive than VIP tickets!

Well-known Slovak influencer and entrepreneur Tono Katrenčík went to the World Hockey Championship with a friend. This year’s championships are taking place in Switzerland, specifically in the cities of Zurich and Friborg. Slovaks can reach the scene of hockey fever from the Vienna airport in about an hour and a half. So it’s no surprise that many compatriots have taken a quick trip to this Alpine country.

On social networks, Katrenčík bragged to his followers about the footage from the first match of the Slovak national team against Norway. He enjoyed the match to the fullest and the Slovak hockey players pleased the fans with a win. After a positive weekend, however, an ice shower awaited him at the Austrian airport. “For one night parking fee 378 euros? That’s extreme (Vienna airport). More expensive than VIP tickets for hockey SVK-ITA,” Tono was angry.

But the influencer admitted his own mistake. “Good thing we didn’t go to the whole tournament, otherwise there would have been 3,700 euros for the parking fee. My mistake, I should have read” he wrote sincerely. He posted authentic footage of himself standing at a parking meter on social media. “We thought we would pay 97 euros in two days. And they count 2.90 every 15 minutes,” he spoke in the introduction of the VIDEO, which you can find above the article.

How is it possible that a well-known Slovak paid such a horrendous amount for parking fees? The zone marked Terminalvorfahrt Abflug at Vienna Airport is the classic “Kiss & Fly” zone, located on the driveway directly in front of the departure terminal. And apparently Katrenčík left his car exactly in this zone. Its main purpose is to allow drivers to quickly stop, unload passengers with luggage and immediately make room for other cars. The price list is also strictly adapted to this purpose, which is intended to motivate motorists not to stay at the site unnecessarily.

Therefore, the first 10 minutes after entering are completely free, which is the ideal time for a safe exit and farewell. However, if you stay longer in the zone, the system starts to penalize the time with high short-term fees. You pay a fixed fee of 2.90 euros for the time period between the 10th and 15th minutes, and the exact same amount, i.e. 2.90 euros, for each additional 15 minutes that have started.

Completely different capacities are used for long-term standing. It is usually parked in the adjacent multi-storey parking garages or in the open-air parking lot. These parking lots are connected to the terminals by covered corridors and offer standard hourly, daily or weekly tariffs, which are incomparably more advantageous in terms of time.
