Following the departure of Gabriel Milito, Lucas Gonçalves takes over as interim coach of Atlético-MG in the final round of the Brasileirão 2024.

Galo faces Athletico-PR, this Sunday (8), at Arena MRV, in a crucial match to prevent the team from falling into Series B of the competition.

Lucas has been at Atlético-MG since 2016, with a brief interruption in 2018, when he worked at Paraná Clube. Over the years, he has performed various roles, such as performance analyst and member of the intelligence sector. Since then, he has established himself as a permanent technical assistant for the main squad.

Son of former coach Otacílio Gonçalves, Lucas followed in his father’s footsteps in football. In addition to , he played for teams such as Paraná, Tubarão, Cabofriense and Tombense. His experience in technical command includes interim performances in moments of transition at Galo, such as in 2021, when he led the team before Cuca’s arrival.

In total, Lucas managed the club in six matches, with four wins, one draw and just one defeat. His last appearance as coach occurred in 2024, in the 2-1 defeat to Palmeiras, when Gabriel Milito was serving a suspension.

Without a permanent coach in this important commitment, Lucas Gonçalves tries to end the season in a dignified way after failing to win the Libertadores and the Copa do Brasil.
