Investigators posted two photos of the killer of the CEO of health insurer United Healthcare, Brian Thompson, on New York police social media. The executive was shot dead on Wednesday.

The criminal was wearing a mask and hood when the images were taken. The killer’s attitude makes it more difficult for his face to be recognized.

There are other photos of the shooter, but only one without a mask. He appears smiling while staying in a hostel in Manhattan.

More than 48 hours after the execution, the police do not know the identity of the killer. A reward of US$50,000 (R$304,000) was offered to anyone who sent information that would help with the investigation. The photos released by the police officer this Sunday show the telephone number to contact investigators.

The main hypothesis is that the criminal fled the city. Security cameras at a bus station captured the killer entering the premises. There are no records of him leaving, which reinforces the suspicion that he traveled.

On Friday (6), police found a backpack. She was in Central Park and was located during a sweep. Investigators are not revealing its contents.

There are two lines of investigation. First, the killer was a disgruntled employee of the health insurance company. The other hypothesis is that he is a customer who is dissatisfied with the services provided.

WHO WAS THE VICTIM?

Thompson had worked at insurance company United Health Group for 20 years. He took over the insurance division in 2021 and was responsible for administering health plans for 49 million Americans.

The executive lived in Minnesota. Thompson traveled to New York to attend the company’s annual investor conference. The event was canceled after the murder.

United Healthcare has already done business in Brazil. Until last year, the company owned Amil. In the United States, it is the market leader in the over 65 segment.
