Nelson Évora, bronze medalist in the triple jump at the Beijing Athletics World Championships
Athlete Nélson Évora assures that his ex-partner Ana Peleteiro, a Spanish athlete, did not refer to him when she reported sexual abuse suffered at the hands of a former boyfriend.
Ana Peleteiro, current European triple jump champion, released a video on the social network TikTok, where she revealed that she had suffered in a past relationship.
Although he never revealed the name of the ex-partner who allegedly committed these abuses, he said that “it’s not very difficult to know who it is”.
Now, the Spanish athlete’s only relationships that are publicly known are with Nelson Évorabetween 2016 and 2021, and with Benjamin Compaoréto whom she is currently married.
Innuendos soon emerged on social media that Ana Peleteiro was denouncing alleged abuses. But the Portuguese athlete denies it.
“The person targeted in this story is not me”points out the triple jump athlete after seeing his social networks being flooded with derogatory comments, linked to Ana Peleteiro’s accusations.
“Following the news that is circulating and involving my name, I express all my empathy for Ana and for all women and men who go through this type of situation”, begins by noting Nélson Évora in a post on Instagram stories.
“I would be grateful if you would not associate me with this testimony under penalty of legal consequences“, writes the Portuguese athlete.
“I woke up at night having sex without consent”
Ana Peleteiro made the allegations of sexual abuse as part of a trend on social media, which has been used in Spain, to talk about abusive relationships under the slogan “I still stayed”.
“I woke up at night having sex without consent. And I still stayed”, notes the Spanish athlete in the video she shared on TikTok.
“It changed absolutely everything about methe way I dress, my hair, the way I am with my family, I distanced myself from a lot of people”, he continues, noting that this abusive ex-boyfriend told him that the relationship “would deteriorate” if they did not have sexual relations “always whatever he wanted”, arguing that “ultimately, Those who didn’t eat at home ended up eating out“.

Ana Peleteiro also notes that her ex-boyfriend returned from trips “with hickeys on the body” and who told him that “they were bites from animals, or from the mattress”.
“I received letters from your lovers at home” and “he said they were crazy fans, that they were obsessed with him”, he also says.
In 2023, the Spanish athlete had already spoken about the abuse of this ex-boyfriend, highlighting that he had forced her to unfollow male athletes on social media.
