Brownie is an American chocolate cakewhich is celebrated on December 8 in the United States. Its name refers to the very brown color of the baked product. The first surviving recipes for the cake date from 1904, however it was created in the 19th century.

One theory is that the dessert was accidentally invented by a certain Mrs. Brown. An American librarian wanted to make it for her friends, but she forgot to add baking powder. The baked goods did not rise and it resembled a lump. Nevertheless, she served it to the guests, who ate it with pleasure.

The second theory, more likely, says that the brownie was invented in 1893 by a confectioner working for Bertha Paler, an economist from Chicago. Her husband owned the Palmer House Hotel and that was where they were first served. The woman wanted the cake to resemble a cocoa sponge cake, but with less rise and to be served as lunch. The confectioner prepared a chocolate cake with nuts and chocolate icing.

How to make brownies in the shape of Christmas trees? The recipe simply involves baking a chocolate cake and then cutting it into several triangular pieces. Each of them is decorated with royal icing and colorful sprinkles to resemble a Christmas tree. A candy cane is stuck into the cake, which imitates a tree trunk and helps you eat the dessert just like a lollipop.

Ingredients:

Brownie:

  • 200 g butter 82%,
  • 200 g dark chocolate,
  • 4 medium eggs (or 3 large)
  • 275 g of powdered sugar,
  • 100 g of wheat flour,
  • 50 g bitter cocoa,
  • 100 g of milk chocolate,
  • 100 g of white chocolate.

Royal icing:

  • 30 g of protein (approx. 1 M egg white),
  • 150 g of powdered sugar,
  • 6 drops of lemon juice,
  • green food coloring (optional).

For decoration:

  • 10 candy canes,
  • sugar sprinkles.

How to do it:

At the beginning preheat the oven to 180°C. Square Line a 22 x 22 cm baking tray with baking paper.

Prepare a water bath – pour water into the pot and bring to a boil. Place a metal bowl over the pot and add the butter and dark chocolate. Stir until they are completely dissolved. Set aside to cool to room temperature.

In the meantime beat the eggs and powdered sugar well into a light yellow, fluffy mass (mix for a few minutes). Then Pour the cooled butter and chocolate into the eggs and mix very carefully. Be careful not to lose air in the egg mixture. After mixing sift cocoa and wheat flourmix gently and slowly again until combined.

Chop the milk and white chocolate into small pieces. Pour into a bowl and mix carefully again. Pour the mixture into the prepared pan. Bake in a preheated oven for 25-30 minutes. Remove and set aside to cool completely.

Remove the cool cake from the tin. Cut the brownie in half, then divide both halves into equal-sized triangles. You can use any leftovers to make bagels later or just eat them right away. Carefully cut off the curved ends of the candy canesso that only straight sticks remain. Insert into the bases of the triangles.

Prepare the royal icing. Sift powdered sugar into a bowl, add egg whites and lemon juice. Mix for about 10 minutes at low speed (so as not to create foam). Mix in a little green food coloring (if you want a colorful frosting). Transfer the icing to a pastry bag and cover the top of each triangular piece. Before the icing sets sprinkle with decorative sprinkles. Set aside for at least an hour for the icing to dry.
