The possibility that this winter will start talks on the pacification of the war in Ukraine, left open the Prime Minister of Poland, .

At the same time, Tusk emphasized that Warsaw wishes to play a decisive role in achieving an end to the conflict and that various meetings are planned as part of this initiative.

Poland, since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, has been one of Kiev’s staunchest supporters. Prime Minister Donald Tusk said Warsaw would be heavily involved in any talks when it takes over the rotating presidency of the European Union starting on January 1.

“I will have a series of talks that will mainly concern the situation beyond our eastern border,” Tusk told a cabinet meeting.

“As you can imagine, our mission will be jointly responsible, among other things, for the shape of the political agenda, perhaps for what the situation will be during the negotiations, which, although there remains a question mark, may begin in the winter of this year”.

Tusk said French President Emmanuel Macron would visit Warsaw on Thursday to update him on talks with US President-elect Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Paris last weekend.

He said he is in constant communication with Northern European and Baltic countries that are Warsaw’s allies, and that British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will visit Warsaw during the first days of Poland’s EU presidency.

“I really want Poland to be the country that will not only be present but will set the tone for these discussions that are going to bring us security and secure Polish interests,” Tusk said.
