The FBI director will resign before Trump takes office

Christopher Wray, the director of the federal police (), whom he wants to replace with a close associate, announced today that he will leave his post in January.

Wray, who took over as FBI director seven years ago, informed the agency’s employees of his decision. The US president-elect said earlier this month that he intends to appoint a staunch ally, Kass Patel, to the post.

Trump appointed Wray, a Republican, in 2017 after firing his predecessor, James Comey, amid FBI investigations into alleged contacts by members of his campaign staff with Russia in 2016.

Then, however, about the searches conducted in 2022 by FBI agents at his residence in Mar-a-Lago, Florida to recover classified documents that he had taken with him after he left the White House.
