The newspaper Recordfrom Portugal, reported this Saturday (14) Sporting’s interest in Portuguese coach Abel Ferreira, from Palmeiras. According to the daily, a factor that makes the transfer difficult would be the high salary that Abel receives in Brazil, above the average for the Lions.
According to Itatiaia, other factors also make it difficult for Abel to leave in the event of a possible move by Sporting. The first of them is the contract, and a high termination fine.
The team also does not intend to lose Abel and has started planning for 2025 taking into account notes made by the coach. Furthermore, , intends to renew the Portuguese’s contract.
Leila was re-elected this year for a new term that runs until the end of 2027. The president wants to extend Abel’s relationship with the club, at least until the end of this administration.
Another point that weighs in favor of Palmeiras is the fact that Abel Ferreira likes living in São Paulo and is adapted to the city. However, an offer from his home country and from a team where he played as a player and coached the B team in 2013 and 2014 could be attractive to the coach.
Sporting’s current coach is José Pereira, who was on the under-20 team. He took over at the beginning of November 2024.
